Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

• Account Information: Email address and display name (via Firebase Authentication).
• Camera and Images: The OCR feature accesses your device camera or photo library (with your permission). Text is first recognised on-device using Google ML Kit (text-recognition); when confidence is low, the image is sent to Google Cloud Vision (see §3). Images are not retained.
• AI Interaction Content: Questions and prompts you submit to AI features (verse commentary, free-form Q&A, follow-up questions) are sent to Anthropic Claude or Google AI Studio Gemini for processing.
• OCR scan images: When the on-device text recognition confidence is low, the image is sent to Google Cloud Vision for server-side text extraction. Image is not retained after extraction.
• Notes: Personal study notes you create are stored in Google Firestore.

2. How We Use Information

• To provide and improve the Bible study functionality.
• To process AI commentary requests via Anthropic Claude (primary) and Google AI Studio Gemini (specific intents).
• To extract text from OCR scans via Google Cloud Vision when needed.
• To maintain and troubleshoot the service.

We do NOT use your data for advertising. We do NOT sell your data to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

• Firebase (Google LLC): Authentication, database (Firestore), hosting, Cloud Functions backend.
• Anthropic PBC (Claude API): AI-powered commentary, free-form Q&A, follow-up generation. Operated on a zero-training path. Please review Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Google LLC (Google AI Studio — Gemini, Tier 1 paid): AI processor for specific intents (study-plan suggestion). Tier 1 paid path is contractually excluded from training; distinct from Google's free-tier consumer AI services. Please review Google AI Studio terms.
• Google LLC (Cloud Vision API): OCR fallback when on-device text recognition confidence is low. Image is not retained.
• Apple Inc. / Google Play Billing: Subscription payment processing on iOS / Android respectively.

4. Data Retention

• Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
• AI interaction logs: Subject to Anthropic's / Google AI Studio's data retention policies.
• Backups: Routine cloud backups (Firebase default rotation).

5. Your Rights

GDPR (EU/EEA users): You have the right to access, rectify, delete, export, and object to processing of your personal data.

CCPA / CPRA (California users): You have the right to know what data is collected, request deletion, and opt out of data sales (we do not sell data).

6. Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under the applicable digital-consent age in your jurisdiction:

• United States (COPPA): 13 years.
• EU/EEA (GDPR Art. 8): 16 years (or lower as set by an EU member state, but never below 13).
• Other jurisdictions: the locally applicable threshold.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the applicable threshold.

7. International Data Transfers

Firebase, Anthropic, Google AI Studio (Gemini), and Google Cloud Vision servers are located primarily in the United States. Where data crosses jurisdictions, transfers are safeguarded by:

• Firebase + Google AI Studio + Cloud Vision (Google LLC): Google's Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable, plus the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where active.
• Anthropic PBC: Standard Contractual Clauses under Anthropic's data-processing addendum.
• Apple / Google Play: Each platform's published privacy framework.
